Grain exports

A company was established by an associate to export grain to overseas markets.  This enterprise has now expanded though internal development and acquisitions to be one of Australia’s leading exporters, responsible for the shipping of over four million tonnes of grain per year.  Such was the success of the business that it was recently bought-out by a Japanese company.

Research Institute

One of our Directors was research leader during the the development of a new research institute in Western Australia.  Although originally focused on livestock breeding, nutrition and production research, the scope was extended to crops and pastures after successful applications to competitive funds.

National testing and recording program

In a past life, one of our staff lead a national team funded by Federal and State Governments that had the mandate to design and implement a sheep recording, testing and genetic improvement program.  This entailed the incorporation of a range of flexible options that allowed users to define their own breeding objectives and pursue their own production goals.  Agreement was negotiated with all of the wool and meat testing laboratories to implement the the program under the leadership of the national team.

Although the concept was very controversial among stud sheep breeders at the time, co-operation was obtained from all representative societies.

Although the original concept has been modified and expanded, this system led to widespread interest in, and acceptance of, objective assessment and selection.
